Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district, has been vocal on several issues via his social media platform. His recent tweets address federal policy changes and legislative developments that he believes could impact the American public.
On June 2, 2025, Congressman Carter criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to FEMA, stating “What Trump is doing to FEMA isn’t reform, it’s federal abandonment. It’s like closing fire stations and telling people to buy their own hoses.” He urged readers to examine his op-ed discussing what he describes as a “destructive plan,” particularly relevant as hurricane season begins.
Later that day, Congressman Carter commented on the progression of a legislative proposal known as the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’. He remarked “As the very poorly named ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ advances to the Senate, I want to remind everyone that even some Republicans recognize it’s hurting the American people.” He cited Republican colleague Rep. Thomas Massie in support of his view.
On June 3, 2025, Carter tweeted about geographical nomenclature and disaster preparedness: “Not surprising that the group that renamed the Gulf of Mexico doesn’t know Hurricane Season exists.”
Congressman Troy A. Carter has served in Congress since 2021 after replacing Cedric Richmond. Prior to this role, he was part of both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Louisiana Senate. Born in New Orleans in 1963, Carter holds a BA from Xavier University of Louisiana.
