On July 6th, Carter emphasized that Essence Fest serves not only as a celebration but also as a platform for meaningful dialogue about issues affecting communities. He noted joining colleagues from The Black Caucus and national civil rights leaders to discuss these matters at the event. “Essence Fest isn’t just a party, it’s an opportunity to have real conversations about the issues that impact our community.”
On July 7th, he addressed concerns related to disaster preparedness following deadly flooding in Texas. Troy Carter has been serving in Congress since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021 after previously holding positions in both Louisiana’s House of Representatives (1992-1994) and Senate (2016-2021). Born in New Orleans in 1963, he holds a BA from Xavier University of Louisiana.
