Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, marked the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination and shared personal reflections and holiday greetings in a series of posts on April 4 and April 5, 2026.
On April 4, Carter commemorated the legacy of Dr. King by posting: “On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, but his fight for justice and equality lives on. Dr. King taught us that ‘the time is always right to do what is right,’ and even in the face of discrimination and suppression, we must keep pushing forward. Let’s honor https://t.co/4O26LxUcn6” (posted April 4, 2026).
Later that day, Carter shared a lighter moment with his followers: “Nothing like a fresh catch turned fresh cooked! https://t.co/t9eLtleSm2” (posted April 4, 2026).
On Easter Sunday, Carter extended well wishes to his constituents: “Happy Easter from my family to yours! May this day of resurrection serve as a reminder of the power of hope and the promise of new beginnings. I wish everyone celebrating today a joyous and blessed holiday surrounded by your loved ones. He is Risen! https://t.co/iMpJseeKIE” (posted April 5, 2026).
Carter has served in Congress since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021 and previously held positions in both the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate. Born in New Orleans in 1963, he continues to reside there today after graduating from Xavier University of Louisiana with a BA in 1986.
