Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on social media highlighting civic participation, cultural celebration, and recognition of Indigenous communities.
On October 11, 2025, Carter reminded constituents about the importance of participating in local elections, stating, “Important reminder that the Open Primary/Orleans Municipal Parochial Primary Election is TODAY. Polls are open until 8 PM. For more information and to view a sample ballot visit https://t.co/otIDBN8sBT #GeauxVote https://t.co/uAf9xF9PQw”.
The following day, October 12, 2025, Carter acknowledged a local culinary tradition, writing, “Happy #NationalGumboDay! Gumbo is a staple that brings people together, unless we’re arguing about whose is the best (it’s mine!) https://t.co/RxxTejX32D”.
On October 13, 2025, in recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day, Carter posted, “On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we honor the resilience of Indigenous Peoples and acknowledge the injustices they’ve endured. I stand with Native communities in Louisiana and across the country in their continued fight for justice. https://t.co/J3U9lDrbM6”.
Carter has represented Louisiana’s 2nd District in Congress since 2021, following his tenure in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994 and the Louisiana Senate from 2016 to 2021. He succeeded Cedric Richmond in Congress and is a lifelong resident of New Orleans, where he was born in 1963. Carter graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
