Congressman Troy A. Carter, who represents Louisiana’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used social media to address the ongoing government shutdown and its potential impact on healthcare.
On October 2, 2025, Carter posted: “Republicans may be on vacation, but I’m not. This government shutdown affects you, so I want to talk directly with you. Join me and @LittleLobbyists today at 12 PM CT for an Instagram Live, where we’ll discuss Republicans’ healthcare cuts and what this means for you.”
Later that day, he wrote: “It’s Day 2 of the #RepublicanShutdown and they’re still MIA. It’s time for them to come back, do the right thing, and WORK. Democrats wanted to start these negotiations months ago, but Republicans wouldn’t come to the table. I’m here and I’m ready to talk. But I WON’T sacrifice” (October 2, 2025).
On October 3, Carter continued his outreach: “This government shutdown affects you, so I want to talk directly with you. Join me and @FamiliesUSA tomorrow at 10 AM CT for an Instagram Live, where we’ll discuss Republicans’ healthcare cuts, #ACA tax credits, and what this means for you.”
Carter has been serving as a member of Congress since replacing Cedric Richmond in 2021 after previously holding positions in both the Louisiana House of Representatives (1992-1994) and Louisiana Senate (2016-2021). He was born in New Orleans in 1963 and is an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana.
