Congressman Troy A. Carter, representing Louisiana’s 2nd district since 2021, recently shared his views on significant political issues through a series of tweets. Carter has been an active voice in Congress and previously served in the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate. His comments touch on potential policy changes affecting Medicaid, constitutional rights under threat, and a heartfelt tribute to mothers.
On May 10, 2025, Congressman Carter expressed concern over reports from the White House and leading Republicans about efforts to reduce provider taxes. He warned that such measures would effectively result in cutting Medicaid. In his tweet, he stated: “Hearing the White House and leading Republicans are honing in on reducing provider taxes. This is, in effect, cutting Medicaid. They are trying to downplay the significance of these cuts, but the reality is they will be deeply harmful, especially for states like Louisiana.”
Later that day, Congressman Carter addressed another issue involving former President Donald Trump’s proposal regarding habeas corpus. On May 10th at 21:27 UTC he tweeted: “Trump wants to cancel habeas corpus—the same constitutional right Lincoln only suspended during civil war. No rebellion. No invasion. Just raw power.
Detaining people without trial is the stuff of dictators, not presidents.
We must reject this tyranny.#GreatWrit”
The following day on May 11th at 13:40 UTC, Congressman Carter took a moment to acknowledge Mother’s Day with a message honoring mothers and those who fulfill maternal roles with love and dedication: “To all the mothers—and those who stand in the gap with a mother’s love—thank you. You are among God’s greatest gifts to humanity.
Your love shapes lives,
your sacrifices build legacies,
and your spirit strengthens generations.
Today and always,
we honor you.”
Troy Carter was born in New Orleans in 1963 and continues to reside there today at age 59. He graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.
