Tulane University sailing advanced to the ICSA Women’s Fleet Race National Championship finals after placing ninth out of 18 teams in the Women’s Western National Semifinals, according to a May 16 announcement. The Green Wave achieved a total score of 183 across ten rotations during the two-day semifinal event in St. Petersburg, Florida.
This result means Tulane will move on to compete for the national title. Advancement from the semifinals is significant as it places Tulane among the top collegiate women’s sailing teams in the country.
Ava Anderson and Ella May Corckran led Tulane’s efforts in the A Division, finishing with a score of 81 over ten races and securing eighth place within their division. The pair earned three finishes inside the top three, including one race victory. In B Division competition, Gabriela Vassel sailed with Charlotte Casey and Caitlin Briggs for Tulane, ending up eleventh with a total score of 102 through ten races. Vassel and Casey posted their best finish by placing second in their first race together; Vassel and Briggs also recorded two top five finishes as a team.
The next step for Tulane is participation in the ICSA Women’s Fleet Race National Championship finals scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17. Live results will be available online during those days.
The advancement marks another achievement for Tulane’s sailing program as it continues its season at a national level.
