Tulane athletes set two new school records on April 17 during the opening day of the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. Silas Kiptanui and Blezzin Kimutai each delivered record-breaking performances for the Green Wave track and field team.
The event matters as it highlights Tulane’s ongoing progress in collegiate track and field, with student-athletes achieving personal and program milestones against national competition.
Kiptanui broke his own previous mark in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing third with a time of 8:25.16. His earlier record was set last June at 8:25.21. Kimutai also secured a third-place finish while setting a new program best in the women’s 10,000 meters with a time of 33:28.25.
Other notable results included Tommy Rice placing sixth in the men’s 10,000 meters with a time of 29:12.80, Alex Sharp finishing 45th in the women’s steeplechase at 10:36.30, and Allison Hall moving up to seventh all-time for Tulane by running her race in 10:49.69 to finish seventy-fifth overall. Rogerio Amaral completed his run with a twenty-first place finish and a time of 29:10.35 in the men’s race.
Competition is scheduled to continue later today with more events at both Azusa and Houston as part of Tulane’s participation in multiple meets this weekend.
