Associate Head Coach and Pitching Coach Anthony Izzio announced his departure from Tulane University on May 28, stating that the decision was difficult for him and his family. Izzio reflected on his four-year tenure, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the baseball program.
“After four years at Tulane University, this is a difficult decision for me and my family. This program has meant a great deal to us and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to be part of something so special,” Izzio said in his statement.
During his time at Tulane, Izzio said the team competed in three championship games, won two titles, and earned two regional appearances. He emphasized that while these accomplishments were memorable, he valued most the relationships built along the way. “The success of this program is a direct reflection of the dedication and character of the young men who wore this uniform and the families who stood behind them every step of the way,” he said.
Izzio also thanked Head Coach Jay Uhlman for allowing him to be part of what he described as something bigger than himself. He expressed appreciation to colleagues Josh Fellows and Frankie Niemann for their commitment to the team, as well as staff members including Curtis Akey, whose contributions reached beyond daily visibility.
Head Coach Jay Uhlman responded with gratitude toward Izzio’s contributions: “Thank you for giving every ounce of yourself to Tulane Baseball, our staff and our players. You helped create two championship-winning teams, two NCAA Regional appearances, 11 professional players and countless meaningful relationships that will last far beyond the game. On behalf of the entire program, we have nothing but gratitude for everything you poured into this place. We wish you and your family nothing but success and happiness in whatever comes next.”
