The Tulane baseball team lost to Rice by a score of 10-6 on Friday night, May 15, at Reckling Park. With this defeat, Tulane is no longer in contention for one of the eight available spots in the 2026 American Baseball Conference Championships in Clearwater, Florida.
This result is significant as it ends Tulane’s hopes for postseason play in their conference. The team’s performance throughout the season determined their eligibility for the championship tournament.
Sam Larson started on the mound for Tulane and allowed four runs on four hits over just under two innings while taking the loss. Other pitchers contributing included Trey Cehajic, Blaise Wilcenski, Tom Vincent, Aidan Rath, and Jacob Moore. Offensively, Trent Liolios led with three hits and three RBIs. Additional contributions came from Tye Wood with a hit and run scored; Matthias Haas with two hits and two runs; Hugh Pinkney with a solo home run; Kaikea Harrison with two hits; Tanner Chun with an RBI; and James Agabedis who hit his seventh home run of the season.
Tulane took an early lead but Rice responded strongly in the second inning with back-to-back doubles followed by additional runs later in the game. Despite several attempts by Tulane to close the gap—including home runs from Pinkney and Agabedis—the team was unable to overcome Rice’s offense.
This marks the eleventh time this year that Tulane has allowed ten or more runs in a game. Their record fell to 7-21 when playing away or at neutral sites this season. For Liolios, it was his third three-hit game of the year and fourth time driving in three RBIs during a single contest.
Looking ahead, Tulane will finish its regular season against Rice on Sunday afternoon.
