The Tulane baseball team is set to play a three-game series against TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, from March 6 to 8. Tulane enters the weekend with an 8-5 record and will face a ranked opponent for each of its next four games. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday.
All three games will be available on ESPN+. Kyle Youmans will provide radio commentary on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH-FM/Varsity Network, beginning 15 minutes before first pitch.
For Friday’s opener, graduate student Trey Cehajic will start for Tulane. Last season, Cehajic went 5-2 with a 4.89 ERA and has begun this year with a 1-0 record and a 3.38 ERA over three starts. TCU will counter with sophomore Mason Brassfield, who holds a 1-1 record.
On Saturday, junior transfer Beau Sampson takes the mound for Tulane while redshirt freshman Lance Davis starts for TCU. Sampson joined Tulane after playing at Oklahoma last year.
Sunday’s game features sophomore Jack Frankel starting for the Green Wave against TCU freshman Uli Fernsler.
TCU is currently ranked No. 21 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 17 by D1Baseball with a record of 7-5 after defeating Abilene Christian midweek despite trailing by six runs early in that game.
The Horned Frogs’ offense is led by Sawyer Strosnider (.361 average), Chase Brunson (.310 average), and Nolan Traeger (17 RBIs). On the mound, reliever Walter Quinn has posted strong numbers with a sub-1 ERA across multiple appearances.
Kirk Saarloos coaches TCU in his fifth season, holding an overall record of 161-92.
Tulane trails slightly in the all-time series against TCU (7-6). The two teams first met in 1989; their most recent meeting was in 2008 when Tulane won.
Historically, Tulane holds a positive record against current Big 12 members at 161-137 overall.
Among individual performances this season, Jason Wachs continues his streak of reaching base safely—now at 39 consecutive games—and leads the American Conference with 19 RBIs. Nate Johnson has hit .750 over the past five games while Matthias Haas maintains solid numbers both offensively and defensively across multiple positions.
Trey Cehajic was named American Conference Pitcher of the Week after striking out eleven batters over seven innings without allowing a run or more than one hit against Eastern Kentucky on February 27: “Cehajic’s seven innings are also tied for the longest outing by a Tulane starting pitcher this season along with Jack Frankel… His eleven strikeouts were the most for any pitcher in the American Conference this season.”
Kaikea Harrison was recently named to the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Watch List: “Harrison is hitting .321 this season… The award honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year.”
Returning players account for more than half of last year’s offensive production across several categories including runs scored and hits as well as nearly half of pitching wins and starts.
Tulane added twenty-three new players to its roster this year spanning graduate students to true freshmen. The program returns fourteen players from last year’s squad that reached its third straight American Championship Game appearance.
