The Tulane baseball team lost 5-4 to Creighton on March 15 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, with the deciding run coming in the top of the ninth inning. The defeat marks Tulane’s fifth consecutive loss and a sweep by Creighton in the weekend series.
This result is significant for Tulane as it extends their losing streak and represents their first home sweep by a non-conference opponent since 2024. The game was closely contested, with both teams exchanging leads before Creighton capitalized on a fielding error in the ninth to score the winning run.
Jake Toporek took the loss for Tulane, allowing one inherited run over 2.1 innings pitched. J.D. Rodriguez started for Tulane, giving up three runs (two earned) in just over two innings. Offensively, Kaikea Harrison hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the seventh inning, while Hugh Pinkney also contributed with a solo home run and two hits overall. Tye Wood added two hits and a walk.
Creighton’s Shea Wendt earned the win by pitching 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. The Bluejays took an early lead with home runs from Nate McHugh and Isaac Wachsmann before Tulane responded later in the game. Despite tying the score at four, Tulane could not capitalize on opportunities in the eighth inning.
Jason Wachs extended his on-base streak to 46 games, setting a career high for him and continuing from last season into this year. The current five-game losing streak is Tulane’s longest since March-April of last season when they also dropped five straight games.
Looking ahead, Tulane will continue its homestand by hosting UNO on Tuesday, March 17, followed by Northwestern State on Wednesday, March 18.
