The Tulane baseball team lost an 11-3 road conference game to Florida Atlantic on Friday night, April 17. Tulane allowed eight runs over the final three innings of the contest.
This loss impacts Tulane’s record in the American Athletic Conference, bringing them to a season mark of 20-19 overall and 6-7 in conference play. The outcome also highlights challenges for Tulane when opponents score early or reach double-digit runs.
Trey Cehajic started for Tulane and pitched five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five. Four other pitchers—LuisPablo Navarro, Julius Ejike-Charles, Jacob Moore, and Caden Tarango—combined for eight strikeouts but issued nine walks and hit three batters during the game. Offensively, Jason Wachs, Matthias Haas, and James Agabedis each had two hits; Wachs scored twice while Haas drove in two runs. Tye Wood extended his hitting streak to six games with a hit and an RBI.
Florida Atlantic took an early lead with Nick Romano’s three-run home run in the third inning after two walks started the frame. John Martinez added a solo home run for FAU in the sixth inning before Romano walked with bases loaded to increase their advantage. In the seventh inning, FAU broke open the game by scoring five more runs through a combination of steals and extra-base hits.
Tulane responded with single runs in both the fourth (on a Haas base hit) and seventh (on Wood’s RBI double), but could not overcome FAU’s offense. The Green Wave finished just one-for-ten with runners in scoring position during the contest.
Looking ahead, Tulane will play the second game of its series against Florida Atlantic at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
