The Tulane baseball team lost a 9-5 game to Lamar at Vincent-Beck Stadium on April 7, snapping its four-game midweek winning streak.
The result affects Tulane’s overall record, bringing it to an even 17-17 for the season. The team had been performing well in recent midweek matchups before this loss.
Jude Abbadessa took the loss in relief after pitching just a third of an inning and allowing one run. LuisPablo Navarro started for Tulane and gave up three runs, two of which were earned, over just over two innings. Several other pitchers contributed out of the bullpen but were unable to contain Lamar’s offense. Ethan Oceguera secured the win for Lamar with more than two scoreless innings in relief.
Jason Wachs led Tulane offensively with two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored. Nate Johnson contributed by scoring twice with a hit and a walk. Hugh Pinkney drove in one run while Tye Wood also added a hit and scored once. Kaikea Harrison doubled as part of his offensive effort.
The game saw several lead changes early on before Lamar pulled ahead for good in the sixth inning with key hits from A.J. Taylor and others. Wild pitches contributed to three consecutive innings where Lamar was able to add insurance runs late in the contest.
Tulane will return home next to host East Carolina from April 10-13 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
