The outcome was decided in the bottom of the eleventh inning when Aric Anderson of Rice hit a sacrifice fly that brought home the winning run. Tulane had led by two runs twice late in the game, but Rice managed comebacks both times before securing victory.

Tulane took an early lead with Wachs’s home run in the third inning but saw Rice narrow that margin later on. In extra innings, Ayala’s double put Tulane ahead again before Rice responded to tie it once more and eventually win.
