The Tulane baseball team lost to the University of Alabama at Birmingham by a score of 7-4 on Saturday, March 28, at Young Memorial Field. This marks Tulane’s second consecutive defeat against UAB in their weekend series.

The outcome affects both teams’ records in the American Athletic Conference, with Tulane now standing at 14-14 overall and 2-3 in conference play. UAB improves to 17-10 overall and holds a conference record of 3-2.

LuisPablo Navarro was charged with the loss for Tulane after giving up two runs on two walks during his inning on the mound. Starter J.D. Rodriguez allowed two runs and walked four batters before being relieved. Jude Abbadessa contributed three innings out of the bullpen but issued five walks while surrendering one run and striking out two. Sam Larson gave up another two runs during his time pitching, while Jack Brafa closed out the game with two scoreless innings and recorded two strikeouts.

On offense, Jason Wachs had a hit and an RBI, extending his on-base streak to a career-high 54 games spanning from last season through this year’s first 28 contests. Nate Johnson scored once, walked twice, and collected a hit; Brett Rowell drove in a run with a single; James Agabedis contributed an RBI via sacrifice bunt; Tanner Chun scored after walking twice; Matthias Haas added an RBI with a pinch-hit sacrifice fly.

UAB opened scoring for the second straight game before Tulane responded by taking its first lead of the weekend early in the contest. However, UAB regained control behind timely hitting from Alex Dupuy as well as Andrew Hunt, Wesley Helms, and Max Price later in the game. A failed pickoff attempt also allowed another Blazers run across home plate.

Tulane will look to avoid being swept when they face UAB again on Sunday afternoon.
