The Tulane baseball team lost to Wichita State by a score of 7-4 on Friday night, April 3, at Eck Stadium in the second game of their three-game series.

This result is significant for Tulane as it brings their season record to an even 16-16 and drops their conference record to 3-5. The outcome also continues a trend for the Green Wave, who have struggled when allowing opponents to score early.

Blaise Wilcenski took the loss for Tulane after allowing two inherited runs in his relief appearance. Trey Cehajic started on the mound and gave up four runs over three and one-third innings. LuisPablo Navarro and Jacob Moore also pitched in relief, with Moore closing out the final one and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts. Offensively, Jason Wachs led Tulane with two hits and a walk, extending his on-base streak to 58 games—a career high. Other contributors included Trent Liolios, who drew three walks and scored a run; Kaikea Harrison with an RBI double; Matthias Haas with an RBI fielder’s choice; Tye Wood driving in a run; Johnny Elliott adding a single; and Tanner Chun recording an RBI sacrifice fly.

Wichita State’s Caleb Reed earned the win by pitching three scoreless innings in relief while Brady Pasche secured his fifth save of the season. The Shockers were led offensively by Owen Washburn’s solo home run in the first inning followed by another three-run homer later that broke a tie game in the sixth inning.

Tulane managed to tie the game twice—first at two runs apiece after Harrison’s double was initially ruled as scoring both runners before review reversed one run at home plate, then again at four following RBIs from Haas and Wood—but could not recover after Washburn’s decisive home run for Wichita State.

Looking ahead, Tulane will play Wichita State again on Saturday afternoon at Eck Stadium as they aim to win the rubber match of this conference series.
