The Tulane baseball team lost to No. 3 Mississippi State, 11-7, in a neutral site game at Kessler Federal Park in Biloxi, Mississippi, on March 10. Tulane held a five-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning but gave up seven runs in that frame and nine total over the final two innings.
This loss brings Tulane’s record to 9-8 for the season and marks their fifth game against a ranked opponent this year. The result highlights both the team’s offensive strengths and defensive struggles during high-pressure moments.
Jack Brafa started on the mound for Tulane, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning. Several pitchers followed, with J.D. Rodriguez striking out six batters over two innings before leaving with inherited runners who later scored on a grand slam. Tom Vincent took the loss after surrendering two runs while recording only one out. The Green Wave pitching staff struck out 14 batters but allowed 12 hits and committed four errors—their highest total of the season.
Offensively, Jason Wachs led Tulane with three hits, extending his on-base streak to 43 games dating back to last season—a career high for him. Nate Johnson hit a two-run home run, while Tye Wood contributed two hits and an RBI. Matthias Haas also extended his own on-base streak to 13 games with a hit.
Mississippi State’s comeback was fueled by Ace Reese’s grand slam in the seventh inning and additional key hits from Reed Stallings and Gehrig Frei. Dane Burns earned the win for Mississippi State.
Tulane will return home to host Creighton for a three-game series from March 13-16 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
