The Tulane baseball team will begin American Conference play by hosting Memphis from Friday to Sunday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, according to a March 19 announcement. The games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
This series marks the start of conference competition for Tulane, which enters with an even record of 11-11, while Memphis stands at 5-14. The matchups will be broadcast on ESPN+, with radio coverage provided by Corey Gloor on WRBH 88.3 FM and the Varsity Network.
Tulane’s pitching rotation features graduate student Trey Cehajic starting Friday, sophomore Jack Frankel on Saturday, and Sunday’s starter yet to be determined. Cehajic has started four Fridays this season with a 1-1 record and a 6.75 ERA over 20 innings pitched. Frankel, in his first year with the program after transferring from Liberty, holds a 1-1 record and a 3.75 ERA in his early starts.
Memphis is expected to start right-hander Will Howell on Friday and left-hander David Case on Saturday; both have logged over 21 innings this season. Offensively, Memphis is led by Shane Cox with a .382 batting average and James Smith IV, who was recently named American Conference Player of the Week after hitting three home runs and driving in sixteen runs last week.
The two teams have met more than one hundred times since their first contest in 1976, with Tulane leading the all-time series by a margin of seventy-six wins to fifty-one losses. Last May in Memphis, Tulane took two out of three games.
Promotions are planned throughout the weekend for fans attending the games: themed t-shirts for early arrivals on Friday, Riptide’s Birthday Party on Saturday, and collectible baseball cards plus post-game autographs from several players on Sunday.
Looking ahead, Tulane will conclude its homestand with a non-conference game against Grambling next Wednesday evening.
