The Tulane baseball team will begin a nine-game homestand with a three-game series against Creighton, starting March 13 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The Green Wave, currently holding a 9-8 record, return after five consecutive away games to face the Bluejays, who are 5-8 this season. Game times are scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at noon.
This series marks an important stretch for Tulane as they look to build momentum on their home field. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+, with radio coverage provided by Corey Gloor or Paul Boron on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 88.3 WRBH-FM and Varsity Network.
Friday’s opener will feature graduate student Trey Cehajic as Tulane’s starting pitcher. Cehajic has started four Fridays this season, posting a 1-1 record and a 4.19 ERA over 19.1 innings with 25 strikeouts. Creighton will counter with junior right-hander Jack Pineau, who was recently named Big East Pitcher of the Week and holds a 2-0 record with a .221 opponent batting average in his fifth start of the year.
Saturday’s matchup sees sophomore Jack Frankel making his first Saturday start for Tulane after transferring from Liberty, where he went 4-3 last season. Frankel has been effective early in the season with a complete game win over Harvard and is currently listed on the National Pitcher of the Year Watch List by the College Baseball Foundation. Creighton will start senior Ian Koosman, while Sunday’s starters remain to be determined for Tulane and redshirt sophomore Eli Nissen is slated for Creighton.
Fans attending Saturday’s game should note that parking is limited due to the New Orleans Book Festival; only pre-purchased passes for Diboll Garage’s top floor are available that day. Parking operates normally for Friday and Sunday games.
Promotions throughout the weekend include giveaways such as bobbleheads, bingo night, Wave Rider Day, Bark in the Park (with free chew toys), collectible baseball cards, and post-game autographs from select players.
Creighton enters after winning two out of three against Gonzaga but losing to LSU earlier in the week. The Bluejays were picked second in this year’s Big East Coaches Poll following last season’s conference championship run under new head coach Mark Kingston—who previously served as an assistant at Tulane—and pitching coach Billy Mohl, a former Green Wave player recently inducted into Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame.
Tulane leads the all-time series against Creighton two games to one from their previous meeting in New Orleans in 2015. The Green Wave also hold a strong historical record against current Big East schools (28-15). Key returning players include Jason Wachs—who leads the American Conference in RBIs and doubles—and several others contributing both offensively and defensively.
Following this weekend’s series, Tulane continues its homestand by hosting UNO on March 17 and Northwestern State on March 18 before beginning conference play.
