The Tulane baseball team secured a 6-3 victory over East Carolina University on April 12, marking its second consecutive conference series win at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
This win is significant for Tulane as it continues to build momentum in the American Athletic Conference. The team has now won eight of its last twelve games against ECU and five of the last six matchups played at home.
J.D. Rodriguez started for Tulane and earned his fifth win of the season after pitching five and one-third innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Blaise Wilcenski provided support from the bullpen with three and two-thirds innings, giving up just one hit. Jack Brafa recorded the save by retiring the only batter he faced.
Offensively, seven different Green Wave players contributed hits, with RBIs spread among five players. Tye Wood had two hits, scored twice, drove in a run, and stole a base. James Agabedis also notched two hits along with a walk and a stolen base. Jason Wachs tallied his thirteenth multi-hit game this season with two hits and a run scored.
ECU took an early lead with Grady Lenahan’s solo home run in the first inning before Michael Kalinich added another solo shot in the second. The Pirates led 3-1 after scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth inning but were overtaken when Tulane rallied for three runs in their half of that frame. Hugh Pinkney delivered what proved to be the game-winning RBI single up the middle.
Looking ahead, Tulane will continue its homestand by hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday evening at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
