The Tulane baseball team earned a narrow 9-8 victory over South Florida on May 9 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, snapping a five-game losing streak and tying the conference series at one game each.

This win was important for Tulane as it halted their recent skid and kept them competitive in the American Athletic Conference standings. The game featured late-inning drama, with Tulane scoring three runs in the eighth inning to take the lead before holding off a ninth-inning rally by South Florida.

In the decisive eighth inning, Nate Johnson began the rally after being hit by a pitch. He advanced on a sacrifice bunt from James Agabedis and later scored on a wild pitch. Tanner Chun and Tye Wood followed with walks, both coming home on Jason Wachs’ single through the right side. This gave Tulane a three-run cushion heading into the final frame.

South Florida threatened in their last at-bat, scoring two runs and putting the tying run on third base before Trey Cehajic closed out the game with his first save of the season. Sam Larson started for Tulane, pitching 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts while allowing three runs and four walks. Jacob Moore picked up his first win of the season despite giving up three runs in relief.

Offensively, Wachs contributed two RBIs along with reaching base multiple times, while Johnson had two RBIs as well. Agabedis added two hits plus an RBI and run scored. For South Florida, Nolan Bernard took the loss after surrendering two runs out of the bullpen.

The teams will play again in a rubber match scheduled for Sunday, May 10 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. A pregame ceremony is planned to honor Tulane’s fourteen seniors ahead of their final home game this season.
