Tulane University’s baseball team secured an 11-3 win over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. With this result, Tulane has won each of its first three weekend series of the season and now holds an 8-4 record, while Eastern Kentucky falls to 3-8.
The game was tied heading into the bottom of the eighth inning before Tulane’s offense produced eight runs to take control. Tom Vincent earned his first win after pitching out of a jam in the top half of the eighth inning. Jack Frankel started for Tulane, allowing three runs—two earned—over five innings with two strikeouts. Relievers Jack Brafa, Sam Larson, and Jude Abbadessa combined for scoreless outings to finish the game.
Matthias Haas led Tulane’s hitters with two hits—including a home run—and four RBIs. AJ Groeneveld added two hits and drove in what proved to be the game-winning run in the eighth inning. Kaikea Harrison and Tye Wood each scored twice, while Jason Wachs contributed both an RBI and a run scored. Other offensive contributors included Trent Liolios, Tanner Chun, and Johnny Elliott.
Eastern Kentucky’s Griffin Howell took the loss after giving up six runs in two innings out of the bullpen.
Tulane opened scoring with two runs in the first inning—a sacrifice fly from Haas plated Harrison, followed by a groundout from Liolios that brought home Wood. EKU responded in the sixth inning with RBIs from David Alvarez, Khaleei Pratt, and Silas Shaffer to take a brief lead before Haas tied it again with a solo home run.
In the decisive eighth inning for Tulane: Groeneveld singled home one run; Elliott delivered a two-run single; another run scored on an error; Wood singled in another; Wachs hit a two-run single; and Haas capped off with an RBI double.
After this victory, Tulane will begin a four-game road trip starting Tuesday against Nicholls State University.
Jason Wachs extended his on-base streak to 38 games dating back to last season—a career high—while Tye Wood has reached base safely in all 12 games this year. The team continues its strong start by winning its third consecutive weekend series.
