The Tulane baseball team secured a 9-5 home victory over South Florida on Sunday, May 10, at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The win marked Tulane’s second consecutive triumph and clinched the series against South Florida, setting up an important conference matchup against Rice next week. The game also served as Senior Day for fourteen members of the team.
The contest was tied at three in the seventh inning before Jason Wachs hit a three-run home run, his eighth of the season, giving Tulane a lead they maintained for the rest of the game. Trey Cehajic earned the win in relief after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts. LuisPablo Navarro started for Tulane and pitched 2.2 innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts, while Jack Brafa contributed with 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Offensively, Wachs led Tulane with two hits, two runs scored, three RBIs, and two walks. Tye Wood added two hits along with an RBI and a run scored; Matthias Haas recorded a hit and walk; Trent Liolios had an RBI single; Brett Rowell delivered an RBI pinch-hit double; Hugh Pinkney walked twice; Nate Johnson contributed a hit; James Agabedis homered to drive in another run; Kaikea Harrison had one hit and one run scored; Tanner Chun finished with two hits—including his first home run of the season—three runs scored, and two RBIs.
South Florida’s Landon Yorek was charged with the loss after failing to record an out while allowing two runs in the seventh inning. USF tied the game earlier that inning on Nathan Earley’s two-run homer followed by Bradke Lowry’s RBI single before Tulane reclaimed control.
Tulane will conclude its regular-season conference schedule against Rice beginning Thursday evening in Houston. The Green Wave ended their home campaign this year with an 18-9 record.
