The Tulane baseball team won the final game of its three-game conference series against Wichita State by a score of 8-1 on April 4, taking the road set at Eck Stadium.
This result is significant as it improves Tulane’s conference record and showcases strong performances from both pitchers and hitters. The win moves Tulane to a 17-16 overall record and a 4-5 mark in American Athletic Conference play.
J.D. Rodriguez started for Tulane, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing only four hits and one run, with four strikeouts. Jack Brafa followed out of the bullpen for two innings with one strikeout, and Sam Larson closed out the game. Offensively, Jason Wachs led the team with three hits—including two doubles and a home run—scoring twice and driving in two runs. Matthias Haas also collected three hits and scored twice, while Nate Johnson contributed two hits, two runs, and two RBIs. James Agabedis added a home run for his third of the season.
Tulane scored early with an RBI groundout from Trent Liolios in the first inning before adding three more runs in the second on Johnson’s single and Wachs’ double. The Green Wave extended their lead to 6-0 after Agabedis’ home run in the third inning. Wichita State managed to score once in the sixth but could not close the gap further.
Wachs extended his on-base streak to 59 games—a career high—while Rodriguez delivered his longest outing yet as a starter this season. The team has now improved its record when scoring first to 12-5 this year.
Looking ahead, Tulane will travel to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar on Tuesday, April 7.
