Tulane University’s baseball team secured a three-game sweep over Harvard with an 11-1 win on Sunday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The game was called after seven innings due to the run rule.
Tulane collected 11 runs on seven hits, while also drawing 12 walks and being hit by four pitches. Pitcher Jack Frankel delivered a complete game, giving up one run on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Kaikea Harrison led Tulane’s offense, driving in four runs—a career high for him. Tye Wood contributed two hits, two RBIs, and scored once. Jason Wachs added a hit and an RBI, extending his on-base streak to 33 games dating back to last season. Tanner Chun walked three times, scored three runs, and stole two bases. Other contributors included Trent Liolios with two runs and a hit, Matthias Haas with a walk, hit, run scored and RBI, and A.J. Groeneveld who walked twice and scored.
Harvard’s Vedant Sharma took the loss after allowing four runs in just under three innings of work.
Tulane opened the scoring in the first inning with Jason Wachs singling home Tye Wood. In the second inning Kaikea Harrison was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run. Harvard cut into the lead in the third inning when Gio Colasante drove in a run for Harvard’s only score.
The Green Wave responded strongly in their half of the third inning with five runs—including RBIs from Harrison and Wood—extending their lead to 7-1. Tulane then added four more runs in the fourth inning through various means including wild pitches and singles from Liolios and Haas.
With this victory, Tulane improved its record against Harvard to 3-1 all-time. Frankel’s complete game was Tulane’s first since Luc Fladda accomplished it during a shortened game against ECU last season.
Looking ahead, Tulane will play away games at UNO on February 24 and South Alabama on February 25 before returning home for a series against Eastern Kentucky starting February 27.
