The Tulane baseball team, holding a record of 15-15 overall and 2-4 in the American Athletic Conference, will travel to Wichita, Kansas for a three-game conference series against Wichita State from April 2-4 at Eck Stadium.
This matchup is significant as both teams look to improve their standings within the conference. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+, with radio coverage provided by Corey Gloor on WRBH 88.3 FM and the Varsity Network.
Tulane’s pitching rotation begins with graduate student Jake Toporek on Thursday, who has recorded a 3.32 ERA and limited opponents to a .241 batting average over his first twelve appearances this season. Trey Cehajic is scheduled to start Friday’s game; he currently holds an ERA of 8.49 over seven starts this year. The Saturday starter for Tulane remains undetermined pending earlier game outcomes and relief pitcher usage.
Wichita State enters the series with a strong home record (16-6) and has won four of its last five games. Jayson Jones leads their offense with a .379 batting average, while reliever Brady Pacha boasts a low ERA of 1.59 over more than twenty-two innings pitched this season under head coach Brian Green.
Historically, Tulane leads the all-time series against Wichita State, winning nineteen out of thirty-three meetings since their first contest in Honolulu in 1993. Last season saw Tulane take two out of three games at home against the Shockers and secure an additional victory during the American Baseball Championship Game.
Several Tulane players have recently contributed notable performances: Jason Wachs has reached base safely in fifty-six consecutive games dating back to last season; Kaikea Harrison leads with eleven multiple run-scored games; Tanner Chun tops the conference in hit by pitches (11) and walks (32). The team also leads its league in doubles (67) through thirty games played this year.
Looking ahead, after concluding their Kansas trip, Tulane will continue its road schedule with a matchup against Lamar University on April 7.
