The Tulane baseball team announced on April 9 that it will return home to face East Carolina University (ECU) in a three-game American Athletic Conference series from April 10-12 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The games are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:30 p.m., with the finale on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
This matchup comes after Tulane took two out of three games against Wichita State on the road last weekend, but then lost a midweek contest to Lamar. The upcoming series is significant as both teams compete for positioning within the conference standings; Tulane enters with a record of 17-17 overall and 4-5 in league play, while ECU holds a mark of 21-12-1 overall and is 6-3 in conference action.
Promotional events are planned throughout the weekend, including giveaways such as ball markers, celebrations honoring past teams, and opportunities for young fans to interact with players. Fans can watch all games live on ESPN+ or listen via WRBH 88.3 FM/Varsity Network, with coverage beginning fifteen minutes before first pitch.
Tulane will start graduate student Trey Cehajic on Friday night. Cehajic has started eight weekend games this season and holds a record of one win and three losses with an earned run average (ERA) of 8.73 over thirty-three innings pitched. ECU’s starting pitcher will be left-hander Luke Payne, who is making his second start of the year. Saturday’s game features Tulane’s Jake Toporek—recently named to the American Conference’s Weekly Honor Roll—against ECU junior Ethan Norby, who was selected as Preseason Pitcher of the Year by the league.
The Green Wave lead their all-time series against East Carolina by forty-two wins to thirty-eight since their first meeting in 2003. In New Orleans matchups specifically, Tulane has won eighteen times compared to twelve losses against ECU.
Following this series, Tulane will continue its homestand by hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday evening.
