The Tulane baseball team will continue its season-long nine-game homestand with matchups against in-state rivals University of New Orleans (UNO) and Northwestern State on March 17 and 18 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
These midweek contests are significant as Tulane looks to improve its record after a challenging start to the season. The games also serve as key opportunities for the Green Wave to compete against Southland Conference opponents, with both UNO and Northwestern State bringing competitive rosters.
On Tuesday, Tulane is set to face UNO in the second and final game of the Pelican Cup series. Junior right-handed pitcher Jack Brafa will start for Tulane, entering the game with a 1-0 record and a 4.76 earned run average over 11.1 innings pitched this season. UNO will counter with right-hander Reid Leonard, who has made four previous starts this year. The Privateers have been led offensively by Dylan Biddick, who is batting .380 through the first 20 games, while Evan Rogers and Owen Smith have also contributed strong performances at the plate.
Wednesday’s opponent, Northwestern State, arrives with a six-game winning streak and a 13-7 overall record. Key players include Thomas Marsala, Brooks Leonard, Joe Siervo, and standout pitcher Brody Trosclair, who holds a 3-0 record with a 0.45 ERA across seven appearances. Neither team has announced probable starting pitchers for Wednesday’s contest.
The Pelican Cup rivalry between Tulane and UNO dates back to its revival in 2018, with UNO currently holding the cup after winning last season’s series and taking the first matchup this year. Historically, Tulane leads the all-time series against UNO but dropped both meetings last year as well as their most recent encounter earlier this season.
Looking ahead, Tulane will begin conference play against Memphis from March 20-22 at home. The Green Wave continues to build on contributions from returning players and newcomers alike as they navigate a schedule featuring several nationally ranked opponents.
