The Tulane baseball team secured a 4-1 win over East Carolina in the opening game of their weekend series on April 10 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Tulane improved its record to 18-17 overall and 5-5 in the American Athletic Conference, while East Carolina fell to 21-13-1 and 6-4 in conference play.

The game was marked by strong pitching performances from Tulane. Trey Cehajic started for the Green Wave, pitching five and one-third innings, allowing four hits and one run, with two strikeouts and two walks. The bullpen combined to keep ECU off the scoreboard for the rest of the game, with Sam Larson closing out the ninth inning by striking out all three batters he faced for his third save of the season.

On offense, Tulane made efficient use of its opportunities despite being limited to four hits and one walk. Tye Wood contributed a hit and scored twice. Jason Wachs added a run scored along with two runs batted in, while Trent Liolios hit his first home run of the season—a two-run shot that gave Tulane a lead they would not relinquish.

East Carolina tied the game early after Matthew Lashley singled home Colby Wallace in the second inning. However, Liolios’s home run in the fourth put Tulane ahead for good. Wachs extended Tulane’s advantage with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

The Green Wave will continue their series against East Carolina on Saturday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m., aiming to build on their recent success at home.
