The Tulane Green Wave women’s bowling team finished the first day of the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships (USBC ITC) sectional qualifier in fourth place on March 14 at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas.
This position is significant because only the top four teams from each of the four sectional sites will advance to the national championship event. Tulane’s performance keeps them within reach of qualifying for the USBC ITC in Green Bay, Wisconsin, if they maintain or improve their standing during the final day of competition.
During Saturday’s play, all teams bowled a total of 36 Baker games split into two sessions. Tulane was tied for seventh after the first session with a pin total of 2,931 over 18 games but improved in the second session by scoring 3,133 pins. This brought their cumulative score to 6,064 and moved them up to fourth out of fifteen teams competing at this site.
At the end of day one, North Carolina A&T led with a score of 6,504 pins. Newman University was second with 6,265 pins and Louisiana Tech held third place with 7,178 pins. The final half of sectional play will take place Sunday with two more sessions totaling another 32 Baker games. The last block will serve as a position round that could determine which teams advance.
If Tulane secures a top-four finish after Sunday’s rounds, they will qualify for April’s national championship event in Green Bay.
