The Tulane University sailing team announced on Apr. 28 that it has secured automatic bids as the SEISA conference champions to the 2026 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open and Women’s Fleet Race National Championships. Both events will take place in St. Petersburg, Florida, with the Women’s Championship scheduled for May 15-18 and the Open Championship set for May 19-22.
This development is significant as it highlights Tulane’s continued strong performance in collegiate sailing, positioning both its women’s and open teams among the top competitors nationally.
For the ICSA Women’s Fleet Race National Championship, Tulane’s women’s team is seeded tenth out of thirty-six teams. The Green Wave is one of two teams from the SEISA conference to earn a bid—alongside Texas A&M—and one of twelve teams nationwide to secure an automatic qualifier spot. Last season, Tulane finished second in this championship.
In the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship, Tulane’s open team holds the eighth seed among thirty-six teams. Like their women’s team counterparts, they join Texas A&M as representatives from SEISA earning automatic qualification. The Green Wave finished fifteenth at last year’s open fleet race championships.
Both championships will be held at SkyBeach Resort on Tampa Bay waters in St. Petersburg, beginning with women’s nationals on Thursday, May 14 and followed by open nationals starting Monday, May 18.
Looking ahead, these national championship appearances provide an opportunity for Tulane sailing to build upon last season’s successes and compete against some of the best collegiate programs in the country.
