Tulane secured a 63-58 win over Memphis on Tuesday night at Elma Roane Fieldhouse, ending a six-game losing streak. The Green Wave improved their record to 9-16 overall and 4-9 in the American Athletic Conference, while Memphis fell to 8-17 and 2-10 in conference play.

The game was closely contested, with both teams shooting at least 40 percent from the field. Tulane shot 42.9 percent and made four three-pointers, doubling Memphis’ total of two. At the free throw line, Tulane converted 17-of-23 attempts for nearly 74 percent, while Memphis managed just under 50 percent (8-of-17). Despite committing nine more turnovers than Memphis (24 compared to the Tigers’ 15), Tulane limited the damage by allowing only five more points off turnovers. Tulane held a significant advantage in rebounding, outpacing Memphis by a margin of 40 to 24.

Amira Mabry led Tulane with 13 points, followed by Kanija Daniel with 12 and Jayda Brown with 11. Seven players collected at least four rebounds each for Tulane; Mabry, Kendall Sneed, and CC Mays tied for the team lead with five apiece. Shiloh Kimpson recorded a career-high seven assists.

The contest began as a defensive battle before both offenses found rhythm later in the first quarter. The lead changed hands several times before Tulane entered the second quarter ahead by one point. Both teams struggled offensively early in the second period until Kanija Daniel tied the game with free throws. The Green Wave built a ten-point lead late in the half before Memphis closed on a seven-point run to cut Tulane’s advantage to three at halftime.

In the third quarter, both teams traded baskets and leads multiple times. Memphis took a brief lead late in the period before Daniel’s free throw left Tulane trailing by one entering the fourth quarter.

Tulane regained control early in the final frame but faced another challenge when Memphis used a seven-point run to take a two-point lead with just over two minutes remaining. Sneed responded with a tying layup that sparked a decisive run for Tulane over the last two minutes of play.

After Sneed’s basket tied it up at 56-all, CC Mays hit a three-pointer following a Memphis turnover to put Tulane ahead for good with just over one minute left. The Green Wave defense forced additional turnovers down the stretch and sealed the victory at the free throw line.

Tulane will face Memphis again on Thursday when they host them at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in New Orleans at 6:30 p.m., as part of their Play4Kay game which will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on WRBH 88.3 FM and through Varsity Network App.
