Tulane University announced on May 13 that head women’s tennis coach Maru Brito has received a contract extension, according to Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair David Harris.
The extension comes after Brito led the Green Wave to 97 dual victories since her arrival, including 11 wins this spring as the program began its first season at the Goldring Tennis Center. The announcement highlights recent athletic and academic achievements within the team.
The Green Wave finished a successful season with sophomores Campbell Ricci and Summer Chandler combining for 60 singles and doubles victories. Both athletes joined Tulane in fall 2024 as top-30 recruits. Ricci’s freshman year included a standout spring record of 14-2 at No.1 singles, earning her American Conference Freshman of the Year and all-league honors. That same fall, Ricci and Chandler became the first Tulane singles players since 2002 to reach the quarterfinals of the ITA Southern Regional Championships. The team also recorded ranked wins over Tulsa, UTSA, and Princeton during the spring.
“We are thrilled to extend Coach Brito’s contract as our head women’s tennis coach,” said Harris. “Her exceptional leadership and dedication to student-athlete development over the years has truly elevated Tulane women’s tennis. We’re excited to see what the future holds under her continued guidance.” Brito recently completed her ninth season leading Tulane’s program.
“I am incredibly grateful to Athletic Director David Harris and (Deputy AD for External Operations and Women’s Tennis Sport Administrator) Jana Woodson for their continued support and trust in my leadership,” Brito said. “It’s a true honor to be part of Tulane, and I look forward to building on our successes and working with our talented student-athletes to reach new heights.”
In addition to athletic accomplishments, four student-athletes—Natalia Fantini, Natalia Perez, Micah Pierce, and Leigh Van Zyl—earned CSC Academic All-District honors this week.
