Tulane University sailing finished in 13th place out of 15 teams at the ICSA Women’s Team Race National Championship, according to an April 27 announcement. The championship regatta took place over two days on Lake Pontchartrain.
The event is significant as it brought together top collegiate sailing teams from across the country, offering student-athletes a chance to compete at a national level. Tulane ended the regatta with a record of two wins and twelve losses.
Skippers Oakley Cunningham, Lola Kohl, Ava Anderson, and Gabriela Vassel represented Tulane in the competition. They were paired with crews Hope Breslin, Skye Terrell, Ella May Corckran, Charlotte Casey, Caitlin Briggs, and Sabrina Anderson during the fourteen races completed by the team. The combinations that earned victories for Tulane included Cunningham with Breslin, Anderson with Corckran, and Vassel with Briggs. These wins came against MIT and St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
The next event for Tulane sailing will be the ICSA Fleet Race National Championships scheduled for May 15-22 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Broader implications of this result include continued experience for Tulane’s student-athletes as they prepare for future competitions at both regional and national levels.
