Tulane University’s men’s basketball team will travel to Birmingham, Alabama, for a rematch against the UAB Blazers on Sunday. The Green Wave previously lost to UAB 69-82 at home in January.
The upcoming game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU. Fans can also listen live through the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.7 The Ticket or stream via the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.
This meeting marks the 43rd time Tulane and UAB have faced each other, with Tulane trailing in the series at 14-28 overall and holding a 6-14 record when playing at UAB’s Bartow Arena. The last road win for Tulane against UAB was an 86-80 victory in February 2014. In their most recent visit to Birmingham, Tulane lost 69-81 in January of last year.
Tulane’s last game saw them secure a home win over Temple with a strong second-half performance that included a decisive 20-4 run. The Green Wave shot 68.4 percent from the field during that stretch while limiting Temple to just 37 percent shooting in the second half and holding them to their lowest shooting percentage of the season overall at 33 percent. Four Tulane players scored double digits, led by Tyler Ringgold’s career-high of 22 points.
Rowan Brumbaugh, a redshirt junior, is nearing a milestone as he needs just 16 more points to become the program’s 40th player to reach 1,000 career points with Tulane. Brumbaugh averages 17 points per game over his Green Wave tenure and reached his collegiate career mark of over 1,000 points earlier this season against Louisiana Tech.
UAB enters Sunday’s matchup following two consecutive wins and holds an overall record of 16-9 with a conference record of 7-5 after defeating Tulsa earlier this week. At home in league play this season, UAB has won only one out of six games while averaging just over seventy-three points per contest but allowing opponents more than eighty-one points per game.
UAB features four players who average double figures: Chance Westry (14.9), Jacob Meyer (13.4), Daniel Rivera (11.8), and Kyeron Lindsay-Martin (11.5). Westry leads the league in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.70 and is second in assists per game with an average of nearly five.
After facing UAB, Tulane will travel next Thursday to Denton, Texas for another conference matchup against North Texas.
