Tulane University’s men’s tennis team secured a 5-2 victory over South Alabama on Saturday at the Goldring Tennis Center in New Orleans. This match marked Tulane’s second-ever contest at the new facility.
Both teams now hold a 4-6 record for the season.
The Green Wave started strong in doubles play. Asaf Friedler and AJ Mercer, who remain undefeated in doubles this spring, earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Daniel Phillips and Lance Nisbet clinched the doubles point for Tulane with a tiebreaker victory, finishing 7-1.
In singles competition, South Alabama won matches at both ends of the lineup, but Tulane claimed victories in the middle positions. Hady ElKordy won at No. 2 singles, Friedler took No. 3, Alec Gaudin prevailed at No. 4, and Piotr Andrzejewski secured a straight-set win at No. 5.
Gaudin and Andrzejewski each won their matches without dropping a set.
Looking ahead, Tulane will travel next week to face Liberty on Friday and Old Dominion on Sunday. Liberty is currently ranked 59th nationally with a record of 6-7, while Old Dominion holds a 10-4 record.
