Tulane University’s men’s tennis team started strong by taking the doubles point against Ole Miss on Friday, but could not carry that momentum into singles play. Ole Miss secured a 6-1 win at home in Oxford, Mississippi, improving their season record to 5-0. Tulane fell to 1-1.

The Green Wave clinched the doubles point after Alec Gaudin and AJ Mercer won at No. 2 doubles (6-4), followed by Daniel Phillips and Lance Nisbet defeating the nation’s 11th-ranked pair, Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn, with a 7-4 tiebreaker at No. 1.

In singles competition, Daniel Phillips forced a deciding tiebreaker at No. 1 singles after winning his second set but lost to Stefano D’Agostino in a close finish (3-6, 6-3, 1-0 [10-8]). Ole Miss swept all six singles matches.

Tulane will play next on Saturday, January 31 at UAB. The Blazers currently have a season record of 1-3 after losing to Middle Tennessee earlier in the week.

“We played well in doubles and showed what we are capable of,” said Head Coach Mark Booras. “We need to bring that same level of focus into our singles matches.”
