Tulane University’s men’s tennis team claimed doubles points in matches against #11 Arizona State and #64 Washington on Friday at the Diablos Collegiate Invitational, held at Kiwanis Tennis Club in Tempe, Arizona. Asaf Friedler and AJ Mercer contributed to Tulane’s early advantage by winning their doubles matches.
Despite taking the lead after doubles play, Tulane was unable to maintain momentum against Arizona State. The Sun Devils secured four of six singles matches, resulting in a 4-1 victory over the Green Wave on Friday evening. This win improved Arizona State’s season record to 11-3, while Tulane’s record moved to 3-3.
The Green Wave’s 43rd-ranked doubles pair, Daniel Phillips and Lance Nisbet, also earned a win with a 6-4 result. In other doubles action, Alec Gaudin and Hady ElKordy were leading their match when it was left unfinished.
In singles competition, Hady ElKordy (No. 2) and Alec Gaudin (No. 4) each won a set before their respective matches were halted without completion.
During the evening session against Washington, Tulane captured victories in both the No. 2 (6-2) and No. 3 (6-3) doubles positions. Singles play for this match is scheduled to resume Saturday at 11 a.m. CT (10 a.m. MST). The team will play its final match later that day at a time yet to be determined.
