The Tulane Goldring Tennis Center is set to open as the new home for Green Wave Tennis, with its first match scheduled for Friday, February 20. The Green Wave women’s tennis team will play against UTSA at 1 p.m., followed by a match against South Florida on Sunday, February 22. The men’s team will have its inaugural match in the venue on Thursday, March 5, facing Florida Atlantic.
Tulane President Michael A. Fitts said, “Tulane offers a truly holistic educational experience that includes fielding the best teams both in the classroom and on the court. The Goldring Tennis Center is another example of the ongoing support and countless opportunities Bill Goldring has provided Tulane students. This includes, among many others major components of Tulane, the buildings that house the A. B. Freeman School of Business, The Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine, and now this truly spectacular Tennis Center.”
Located at 200 Broadway on Tulane’s University Square campus, the facility features six NCAA regulation tennis courts and four pickleball courts.
Patrick Norton, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Tulane, stated: “This a great moment for the Green Wave Tennis teams and the entire New Orleans community. This project begins a new chapter for our student-athletes, Green Wave fans and all of our neighbors who love tennis and Tulane.”
During competitive seasons, Tulane teams will have reserved hours to use the tennis courts; additional hours will be made available to community members later in summer. Pickleball courts are also planned to be accessible daily for students and community users later this spring. Information about reservations for both facilities will be released soon.
Ben Weiner Director of Athletics Chair David Harris commented: “We are thrilled to have both Tulane tennis teams in action at the Goldring Tennis Center. This facility will have a lasting impact on our teams and our community. For our athletes, it provides a first-class environment to train and compete. For our community members, it offers a welcoming space to enjoy the sport, stay active, and connect with one another.”
The center is situated riverside next to Carver Playground; pickleball courts run parallel to Leake Avenue with buildings serving as noise buffers from residential areas.
Senior player Micah Pierce remarked: “Growing up in New Orleans, I always dreamed of an on-campus, first-class tennis facility. It’s incredible to see it come to life here at Tulane, and I’m so proud to be part of this moment.”
Fans attending matches can use permanent stands around each court; individual scoreboards are installed per court along with a larger scoreboard displaying overall match scores. Ample off-street parking is available at University Square.
Junior player Daniel Phillips said: “This new facility is a game changer for Tulane tennis. My teammates and I are excited to play on campus in front of our fans and are eager to compete and bring the Green Wave energy.”
Additional amenities are planned for installation during spring and summer months; updates regarding these enhancements as well as scheduling information will be posted via social media channels or on TulaneGreenWave.com. A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is also being organized.
