Tulane University is preparing to defend its title at the American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Birmingham, Alabama. The event will be held over two days at the Birmingham Crossplex. Tulane’s women’s team, last year’s champion, enters as the preseason favorite.

The competition begins on Friday, February 27, with Sofie Groeninger representing Tulane in the women’s pentathlon. The opening event of the pentathlon is the 60 meters hurdles at 9:00 a.m. Charlotte Elliston and Presley Wolfe are set for the pole vault at 3:30 p.m., while Cara Salsberry will compete in the weight throw at 4:15 p.m.

Track events on Friday include mile trials featuring Reese Ragland and Elena Liano-Rengel at 1:05 p.m., followed by Marissa Gordon in the 400 meters trials at 1:35 p.m. Zaria Parker competes in the 60 meter dash trials at 2:35 p.m., with Jasper Newton running in the 800 meters trials at 3:00 p.m. Parker returns for the 200 meters dash trials at 3:30 p.m. The largest group from Tulane on Friday will race in the 5,000 meters at 4:00 p.m.: Allison Hall, Blezzin Kimutai, Alex Sharp, Haley Harper, and Petra Dos Santos. The first day ends with a distance medley relay scheduled for 5:10 p.m.

Saturday’s field events start with Wolfe competing in triple jump at 11:00 a.m., and Groeninger participating in shot put at 1:15 p.m. Finals for several track events are set throughout Saturday afternoon, including those for mile (12:05 p.m.), 400 meters (12:25 p.m.), 60 meters (1:05 p.m.), 800 meters (1:25 p.m.), and 200 meters (1:45 p.m.). Six runners—Harper, Hall, Sharp, Dana Rojas Vazquez, Kimutai, and Dos Santos—will compete in Saturday’s featured event, the women’s 3,000 meters final at 2:05 p.m. The championship concludes with the women’s team entering a squad into the concluding relay race scheduled for late afternoon.

Last season saw Tulane produce individual champions in both the mile and the 800 meters races; Ragland finished third last year in her event. In addition to these achievements on track, Kimutai secured second place in last year’s women’s five-kilometer run and aims to improve this season.

Head coach Adrian Myers led his staff to win “2025 Staff of the Year” honors after guiding Tulane to its first-ever conference indoor title last season.

Following this weekend’s conference championship meet, qualifying athletes will move on to compete nationally during NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships scheduled March 13–14 in Fayetteville.

Tickets for various Tulane sports can be purchased by calling or visiting official channels online or onsite. Fans are encouraged to download Tulane Athletics’ official app for updates or follow teams via social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

“Giving to the Green Wave Club provides Tulane Athletics with the resources student‑athletes need to excel in competition and in the classroom,” according to university officials. “Your support directly improves the lives of current and future Green Wave student‑athletes and enhances Tulane’s competitiveness in intercollegiate athletics.”
