Tulane University sailing finished in seventh place among 18 teams at the ICSA Women’s Fleet Race National Championship on May 18 at SkyBeach Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida. The team completed the two-day regatta with a total score of 208 over 12 rotations.
The result highlights Tulane’s performance against top collegiate sailing programs. The championship is an important event for women’s collegiate sailing, offering teams a chance to compete for national honors and measure their progress during the season.
In the A Division, skipper Ava Anderson teamed up with crews Ella May Corckran and Cate Anderson to secure ninth place in their division, posting a score of 96 across 12 races. Anderson and Corckran recorded seven top-10 finishes, including three within the top five. Cate Anderson joined Ava Anderson for three races together, achieving one top-10 finish.
The B Division saw Tulane place eleventh overall with a total score of 112 after twelve rotations. Skipper Gabriela Vassel raced alongside crew Caitlin Briggs, while skipper Lola Kohl sailed with crews Skye Terrell and Martha Hughes. Vassel and Briggs earned five finishes in the top ten, including a race victory in rotation eleven. During other races for Vassel and Briggs, Kohl contributed two additional top-six performances—one each with Terrell and Hughes.
Looking ahead, Tulane will begin competition in the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Semifinals on Tuesday. The Green Wave is set to race among seventeen other teams from May 19-20 for an opportunity to advance to the championship finals scheduled later that week.
The outcome at this championship reflects both individual efforts by student-athletes and overall team depth as they prepare for upcoming national semifinal events.
