Tulane University’s men’s basketball team achieved a decisive 85-52 win over UTSA on Saturday in San Antonio, setting a new program record with 19 three-pointers. This victory marks Tulane’s largest road win against an American Conference opponent since joining the league in the 2014-15 season.
The Green Wave improved their record to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play. With this result, Tulane has now won five straight games and started conference competition at 3-0 for the first time since opening Conference USA play at 7-0 under head coach Perry Clark during the 1996-97 season.
Tulane shot 45.5 percent from the field and made nearly half of its three-point attempts, finishing with a season-high 22 assists. Both their total makes (19) and attempts (42) from beyond the arc are new school records.
Three players led Tulane’s offense: Rowan Brumbaugh scored a game-high 23 points, matching his career bests with six made threes and seven rebounds while also contributing five assists and four steals; Curtis Williams Jr. added 22 points, including a career-high six three-pointers, along with four assists and two steals; Asher Woods contributed 17 points and tied for a team-high seven rebounds.
After an early exchange of baskets, Tulane pulled away with a decisive 15-0 run to take control of the game. By halftime, they led UTSA by an 18-point margin after holding their opponents to just over 25 percent shooting from the field.
In the second half, Tulane continued their strong offensive showing by making another eleven threes and building their lead to as much as thirty-eight points late in the contest. Jake Shapiro capped off Tulane’s record-setting night with one final three-pointer before the final buzzer.
Looking ahead, Tulane will host UAB on Wednesday, January 14 at home in Uptown New Orleans. The matchup is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start on ESPN+.
