The Tulane University swimming and diving program announced on May 6 the hiring of Kat Mueller as its new Assistant Swimming Coach. The announcement was made by head coach Amanda Caldwell.

Mueller’s appointment is significant for the team, as she brings recent collegiate experience and a record of athlete development to Tulane’s program. Her background as a former student-athlete at Purdue University and her coaching tenure at Marshall University are expected to benefit both the swimmers’ performance and team culture.

“Kat is a tremendous addition to our program and someone who immediately elevates the standard of what we do every day,” Caldwell said. “As a former student-athlete at Purdue University, she understands exactly what our women are navigating and brings a level of relatability and credibility that builds instant trust. Her experience at Marshall reflects her ability to develop athletes, improve performance, and contribute to a strong team culture. Kat has a sharp understanding of training, race execution, and how to communicate in a way that drives both accountability and confidence. She is a true Wave Maker who meets student-athletes where they are and moves them forward. I’m excited for the impact she will have on our swimmers and the continued rise of our program.”

Mueller joined Tulane after serving as Assistant Swim Coach at Marshall University beginning in 2024 following her graduation from Purdue in 2023, where she was co-captain of their swim & dive program. While assisting Marshall during the 2025-26 season, the team achieved a 4-1 record, with swimmer Elyse Wood setting a school record in the 100 Freestyle event.

Expressing gratitude for her new role, Mueller said: “I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the Swim and Dive staff at Tulane University. The program’s commitment to excellence on and off the pool deck is something I deeply admire.” She added thanks to Athletic Director David Harris and Head Coach Amanda Caldwell for their trust.

Tulane’s swimming and diving team recently finished fifth overall at the American Conference Swimming Championships with over nine hundred points, earning one event victory along with five medal winners across multiple events.
