On January 20, three Tulane athletes received conference weekly awards. Lise Coetzee was named American Swimmer of the Week; Eliza Lennox earned American Freshman Swimmer of the Week; and Libby Brewer was recognized as American Freshman Diver of the Week. This brings Tulane’s total number of weekly conference awards this season to eight.
Coetzee played a significant role at the Mardi Gras Invite by helping Tulane achieve three head-to-head victories over North Texas, New Mexico, and Little Rock. The team also won the overall title with a score of 166 points. Coetzee secured individual wins in the 1000 free (season-best time of 10:01.81), the 500 free, and the 200 free. She contributed to relay wins in both the 400 free and 200 free relays. Her performance in the 800 free relay resulted in a NIC A qualifying mark.
Lennox led as Tulane’s top freshman scorer at Mardi Gras with six event wins. These included a personal-best time of 24.20 seconds in the 50 fly—also an NIC A cut—and victories in the 50 free, 100 free, and multiple relays.
Brewer was Tulane’s highest-scoring diver at Mardi Gras Invite. She finished second in both the three-meter (266.80 points) and one-meter (278.20 points) events. Her one-meter score qualified her for NCAA Zones; her earlier three-meter performance had already secured qualification. Brewer teamed with Kelsey Weddington and Taylor Cekay to win the team diving event over North Texas and New Mexico with a combined score of 268.
In their last competition at Mardi Gras Invite, Tulane won all three dual meets against North Texas (51-24), New Mexico (59-28), and Little Rock (44-33). Over two days they claimed victory in twenty events including relays such as the 200 medley and individual races like the IMs and freestyle sprints.
Tulane’s next major competition will be at The American Conference Championships held from February 18–21 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
