Tulane swimming & diving wins all events on opening day of Mardi Gras Invite

The Tulane Green Wave women’s swimming and diving team opened the Mardi Gras Invite with a 51-24 win over North Texas in the swimming events at the Reily Center Natatorium on Friday. The team also placed four athletes among the top ten in the three-meter diving competition.

Tulane secured victories in all seven events during their first dual meet of the competition, collecting 51 points. The 200 medley relay A team—Andrea Zeebe, Paula Gaya Bisquerra, Eliza Lennox, and Rafaela Sumida—finished first with a time of 1:44.81. The B team took third place.

Lise Coetzee won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.08, while Sydney Mullin finished second and Mary Kate Kupsky placed fourth. Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou claimed victory in the 200 butterfly, and Phoebe Johnson was third.

Gwen Shahboz earned two wins for Tulane, taking first in both the 100 individual medley (59.09) and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.77). Danielle Barberie finished third in both events, while Ebba Holgersson added a fourth-place finish in the 100 IM.

Andrea Zeebe led a sweep of the top four spots in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 2:02.09. Marin Shimkus was second, Samantha Schoenborn third, and Kupsky fourth.

In relay action, Tulane’s A team—Nicole Fant, Sumida, Olcaytu Hatipoglu, and Lennox—won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.12. The B team took third place.

In diving, Libby Brewer finished second overall on the three-meter board with a score of 266.80 points. Teammates Tannah Proudfoot (sixth), Taylor Cekay (seventh), and Eva Shawver (tenth) also ranked among the top ten divers for Tulane.

The Mardi Gras Invite continues Saturday with Tulane facing New Mexico at 9:50 a.m., followed by one-meter diving at noon and team diving at 1:30 p.m., concluding with a dual meet against Little Rock at 5 p.m.
