Tulane University’s swimming program finished in 18th place out of 52 teams at the National Invitational Championships on March 14, held at the FAST Facility in Ocala, Florida. The team scored a total of 206 points during the three-day event.
The highlight for Tulane came when Eliza Lennox won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.28 seconds, moving up from her seventh-place finish in the preliminaries to take first place in the finals. The relay team consisting of Lise Coetzee, Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou, Phoebe Johnson, and Lennox also contributed by finishing fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:21.88.
Other notable performances included Petropoulou’s eighth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.75) and Johnson’s fourteenth-place result in the same event (2:01.09). In distance events, Petropoulou placed twenty-third in the 1000-yard freestyle (16:56.98), while Coetzee was twenty-eighth (17:05.42). Gwen Shahboz led Tulane in breaststroke events, finishing twenty-third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.34) and fifty-ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (58.90). Libby Brewer represented Tulane in diving with a twenty-eighth-place finish on the one-meter board, scoring 224.90 points.
With this meet concluded, Tulane’s swimming and diving athletes will begin their off-season preparations and training for future competitions.
