Tulane University announced on Apr. 1 that its sailing team will host three regattas on Lake Pontchartrain from Thursday to Saturday, April 2-4. The events include the SEISA Team Race Conference Championships, the Tulane Women’s Team Race, and a Triad Scrimmage against Stanford.
The weekend begins with the SEISA Women’s Team Race Conference Championship on Thursday, where Tulane will compete against Texas A&M for the title. Racing is set to start at approximately 4 p.m., with seven rounds planned and a minimum of six races required to complete the event. If six races are not finished on Thursday, competition will resume Friday morning at around 9 a.m.
Friday also marks the start of the SEISA Open Team Race Championship, featuring teams from Tulane, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas A&M – Galveston. This championship is scheduled for three round robins beginning at about 10 a.m.
According to Tulane University, its sailing team has won both the women’s and open team race conference championships for each of the last four seasons. Last year’s championship events were also held on Lake Pontchartrain in early April.
In addition to conference action, Tulane’s women’s team will face non-conference opponents in another regatta starting Friday afternoon and concluding Saturday. The Green Wave will also compete against Stanford in their second Triad Scrimmage over Friday and Saturday; their first meeting took place last weekend in Redwood City, California.
