The Tulane track and field team concluded its participation on April 11 in the third day of the 44 Farms Team Invitational at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, Texas. Two Green Wave athletes achieved top-10 finishes during the event, with Aiden Yang placing eighth in the men’s javelin and Jasper Newton finishing ninth in the women’s 800-meter invite.
The invitational began with several field events for Tulane. Ali Saunders competed in the women’s javelin, securing a mark of 36.87 meters to finish thirteenth. In the men’s javelin, Yang recorded a throw of 51.13 meters for his eighth-place result. Camille Cummings tied for eleventh place in the women’s pole vault by achieving a personal best of 3.67 meters.
On the track, Newton ran a time of 2:11.65 to earn ninth place in her event. In the wind-aided women’s 100-meter dash, Zaria Parker posted a time of 11.68 seconds to take fifteenth; this result would have matched seventh-best all-time at Tulane if not for wind conditions affecting official record eligibility. Brianna Brand finished thirtieth with an effort of 11.89 seconds.
In other results, Lee Harris ran an eleven-second flat time to finish forty-third in a wind-aided men’s race over one hundred meters. The women’s four-hundred meter event saw Marissa Gordon come thirty-second with a time of 56.64 seconds and Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas close behind at thirty-fifth with her own mark of 56.96 seconds.
Looking ahead, Tulane’s program will divide next weekend as some athletes travel west for Azusa Pacific’s Bryan Clay Invitational beginning Thursday, April 16 while others compete at Houston’s Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational starting Friday, April 17; both meets end Saturday.
