The Tulane track and field team completed a successful weekend with strong performances at two separate events in Louisville, Kentucky, and Boston, Massachusetts. The program saw three athletes add their names to the school record books.
At Boston University’s Track and Tennis Center during the John Thomas Terrier Classic, Bernard Cheruiyot set a new school record in the men’s 3,000 meters with a time of 7:49.26, finishing tenth overall. Gilbert Rono narrowly missed breaking the indoor mile record, clocking 4:02.58—just shy of Amos Kipyegon’s longstanding mark from 1998 of 4:02.35. Silas Kiptanui achieved a personal best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:02.96.
Meanwhile, at Louisville’s Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center for the PNC Lenny Lyles Classic, Presley Wolfe finished second in the pole vault by clearing 4.02 meters. This result ranks as the sixth-best performance in Tulane program history and is currently ranked 74th among Division I competitors this season.
Tulane will next compete at the Badger Windy City Invitational hosted by Wisconsin in Chicago on February 6 and 7.
